§ 2-58. Paid vacations.

  • The town shall have the following policy regarding paid vacations:

    (1)

    Earned vacation time.

    a.

    After one (1) full year from the date of full time employment, the employee shall be entitled to five (5) paid vacation days.

    b.

    After two (2) full years of employment, up to and including the fifth (5) year of employment, the employee shall be entitled to ten (10) days paid vacation time per year.

    c.

    After six (6) years, up to and including the thirtieth (30) year of employment, the employee shall be entitled to one (1) additional day of paid vacation each year.

    d.

    Unused vacation. A maximum of ten (10) days of unused vacation time can be sold back to the town during a calendar year. The balance of unused vacation time will be carried over to the next year. It is not mandatory to sell back the time. Employees have the option to sell ten (10) days back to the town or carry all time over to the following year.

    (2)

    Scheduling vacation. Preference in vacation scheduling shall be made by the direct supervisor based on employee's seniority with the town, provided requests are made within thirty days of the time vacation actually begins.

    (3)

    Employees hired after July 8, 2014.

    a.

    Employees hired after July 8, 2014 shall have forty (40) hours of vacation per year as of first day of January following their hire date. After two (2) full calendar years of employment, they shall have eighty (80) hours of vacation per calendar year. After five (5) full calendar years of employment they shall have one hundred twenty (120) hours of vacation per calendar year. After fifteen (15) full calendar years of employment they shall have one hundred sixty (160) hours of vacation per calendar year.

    b.

    Such employees can choose to be paid a maximum of ten (10) days of unused vacation during a calendar year. The election to be paid must be made by December 1.

    c.

    Such employees may carry over up to eighty (80) hours of vacation time from one calendar year to the next in addition to the time set forth in subsection (3)a.

    d.

    Vacation time for such employees that is not elected to be paid out or is not carried over is lost.

    e.

    Such employees will be paid for unused vacation time upon the termination of their employment.

    f.

    No employees can take more than fifteen (15) consecutive work days of vacation.

    g.

    All employees must obtain approval of vacations of more than two (2) days from their supervisor at least five (5) working days in advance of the vacation.
