§ 9-2. Garbage cans and trash containers.

  • (a)

    Required. All residents and commercial B units shall provide garbage cans of sufficient capacity to hold two (2) days' accumulation of garbage. Each garbage can, galvanized or plastic, shall have when empty a capacity of not more than twenty (20) gallons and a weight not greater than twenty (20) pounds. Each can shall be free from sharp edges around the rim or top, shall be free from holes or leaks and shall be equipped with appropriate handles and a cover sufficient to prevent the entrance of rainwater and insects. Each can shall be kept securely covered at all times except when being filled or emptied and shall be located at an easily accessible place on the public right-of-way for pickup.

    (b)

    Inspection and approval. All garbage and trash cans shall be subject to inspection and approval or condemnation by the inspectors of the sanitation department of the town, and no appeal from condemnation shall be possible except by the town council.

    (c)

    Emptying contents. All garbage cans and trash containers shall be emptied at least two (2) times per week, and the contents thereof shall be disposed of two (2) times per week in residential districts and as designated by the director of public works in business districts.

    (d)

    Dumpsters required. All commercial A-type units shall be required to have a commercial dumpster for disposal of garbage and trash. It shall be the duty of the director of public works to determine the size dumpster required. Appeals of his decisions may be made to the town council.
