§ 2-23. Attendance at meetings; penalty.

  • Each member of the council is required by law to attend all meetings of the town council. Any member of the council who fails to attend all scheduled meetings, in which notice has been given, shall forfeit fifty dollars ($50.00) from their regular monthly pay for not attending the meeting for the first absence unless excused by vote of a majority of the members of the town council and after such member has submitted in writing prior to the next meeting the reason for such absence. If a council member fails to attend two (2) consecutive meetings, the member shall forfeit one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) from their regular monthly pay unless excused by a majority of the council members at a scheduled meeting and such request by the member be made in the aforesaid manner. If a member is absent three (3) consecutive meetings, they shall forfeit the sum of three hundred dollars ($300.00) from his regular monthly pay unless excused in the same manner as set forth herein for the first two (2) absences.
