§ 21-51. Intent and purpose.

  • The intent and purpose of this article is to:

    (1)

    Prohibit the discharge of sewage and waste into the sewer system in excess of its carrying capacity;

    (2)

    Prohibit and regulate discharge of sewage, industrial waste, or other wastes which may cause maintenance or operating difficulties for the sewers, force mains, pumping stations and other structures appurtenant to the sewage system, and for the sewage treatment plants;

    (3)

    Require the treatment before introduction into the sewerage system of such wastes as may otherwise impair the strength or durability of the structures appurtenant to the system by direct or indirect chemical action or which may adversely affect normal treatment processes at sewage treatment plants; and

    (4)

    Establish the characteristics of sewage and industrial wastes that are prohibited from discharge into the public sewers.
