§ 21-4. Town's remedies for nonpayment of bills—Notice to occupant.

  • If any utility bill shall remain unpaid five (5) days after the due date the town shall give written notice by regular United States mail to the occupant of the premises for which such bill was rendered, who shall be deemed the agent of the owner of the premises for the purpose of notice, specifying the amount due, with penalties, and advising of the town's intention to terminate service and impose a lien upon the property receiving the utility service on a date not less than five (5) days after the mailing of such notice. Such notice shall also contain a statement to the effect that the owner or occupant has a right to a hearing before the person responsible for enforcement of this article within such five-day period and shall state the telephone number at the town hall where such enforcement official may be contacted to request such a hearing.
